For the third year in a row, Ogeechee Technical College(OTC) has hosted students from Leopold-Hoesch Berufskolleg, a vocational college in Dortmund, Germany. The five students were learning and job shadowing in Statesboro as part of an exchange program with OTC from September 20 – October 11.

Students Christian Wyes, and Jonah Hüntemann who are studying to be automotive mechanics in Germany, job shadowed at Franklin Toyota.

“Here at franklin Toyota I learned that they do things differently than we do in Germany, but it was a good experience and I can take some of these ideas home to improve my own work,” said Wyes.

Students Lars Luhmann, Omer Ramadani, and Philipp Seidel who are studying to be industrial mechanics, spent their time job shadowing at Brodie International.

“My favorite thing about visiting the USA were the people, they were so kind to us and invited us into their homes to have dinner with their families,” said Seidel.

In addition to their job shadowing, the students had the opportunity to sit in on Ogeechee Tech classes and get to experience some of the local culture, food, and festivities.

“I can proudly say we completed another successful year of student job shadowing, this time without a hurricane,” said OTC instructor Matthew Gainous. “The students from Leopold-Hoesch enjoyed their time in Statesboro and gained valuable knowledge of US based technical education in Automotive and Manufacturing/Engineering industries. This is a beneficial program for both schools, and I hope we can continue forging the relationship between our two countries and technical college systems.”
